Opportunity Center
The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a free TRIO program
designed to assist 1000 adults in obtaining a GED and/or with
college or vocational school enrollment. EOC staff assists
participants with determination of educational goals, academic
assistance, completion of college admission and financial aid
applications, college adjustment concerns and career exploration.
The program is for anyone who does not already have a four-year
degree. The program can even continue to assist students after they
have begun college coursework. Participants must reside in Carter,
Unicoi, Hawkins, Sullivan, Johnson, Washington, or Greene counties
in Tennessee

College!
Educational Talent Search
Educational Talent Search (ETS) is another TRIO program that helps
middle school and high school students prepare for and enter
post-secondary education. Talent Search provides career exploration
and planning, workshops and individual counseling sessions for
financial aid, scholarship information, ACT preparation, and
college exploration. The program also arranges college campus
visits, educational and cultural trips, and a majors fair for high
school juniors. Talent Search works with the 6th - 12th grades in
Hawkins, Johnson and Sullivan counties.
TRIO
TRIO programs started with the Educational Opportunity Act of 1964
and the Higher Education Act of 1965. All TRIO programs are funded
by the U.S. Department of Education. In 2011-2012 the ETSU EOC will
receive $226,600 and Educational Talent Search will receive
$257,769 to serve participants. ETSU has also committed money to
each project - the EOC receives $5,000 and Educational Talent
Search receives $7,500.
