The Writing & Communication Center offers, in addition to one-on-one tutoring on writing and speaking assignments, some special services designed specifically to meet the needs of ETSU's growing international student community.

American English Pronunciation
The Center offers individualized oral communication tutoring, focusing on accent reduction and American English pronunciation, to a limited number of ETSU students and community members on an appointment-only basis (limit one appointment per week). Clients requesting individualized oral communication tutoring must also be regular participants at The English Table.

The English Table

The purpose of The English Table is three-fold:

  1.  to help members of ETSU's international community become better speakers and listeners of American English;

  2.  to help members of ETSU's international community become more informed about American culture and, more specifically, life in the Appalachian region;

  3.  to help all students become more aware and respectful of the diversity of cultures represented at ETSU.

The English Table has been a part of the WCC's services for over 10 years, providing ETSU's international community -- students, visiting scholars, faculty, friends and family -- with a weekly venue for learning about American language and culture and sharing their own unique cultural experiences.

In Fall 2009, the English Table will meet on Sundays from 4 to 5:30 pm in the WCC. Email English Table coordinator Zahra Pashazadeh at zpashazadeh@yahoo.com or call 439-7848 for more information.
