As
a student at ETSU, you’ll
have the opportunity to
work with teachers who
are specialists in their
fields. My philosophy as
a teacher, which I share
with many of our faculty,
is to teach students how
to think for themselves.
Helping students learn
how to learn is one of
the most important things
teachers can do for their
students.
As ETSU’s
percussion professor, I
try to give my students
performing and teaching
experience that will help
them achieve their goals.
Our student percussionists
perform on campus and travel
throughout the region and
the country representing
the university and the
Department of Music. I
want our students to be
recognized and respected
nationally, so they can
be competitive with anyone
in the job market. Many
faculty at ETSU have this
philosophy, which helps
their students succeed.
Because many of
my students will become
teachers, I help them become
excellent performers and
also develop their teaching
skills. Learning how to
teach yourself will make
you a better teacher for
others. This is true in
any profession.
Students aren’t
just numbers at ETSU, which
can make a huge difference
in your ability to reach
the goals you set for yourself.
You’ll have many
opportunities to learn
about other cultures and
to meet students and faculty
from all over the world.
A wide variety of musical
performances, theatrical
performances, and other
events on campus will give
you the well-rounded education
you deserve.
Whatever you choose
to study, ETSU can give
you the training and experience
you need to be successful.
I hope you will visit our
campus and meet some of
your future teachers and
fellow students.
