Advice to New Students: Get out there, meet new people and get involved!!
I always knew that I wanted to move out and go away to college, but I didn’t want to go to a school where I was going to be just a number. So when I began my college hunt, East Tennessee State University seemed to be the perfect choice.
The summer after high school graduation flew by and it quickly became time to pack my things and move into what would soon become home, my dorm room. The hour and half ride from home to ETSU seemed to take forever, but finally we arrived and I saw people everywhere carrying boxes, luggage and clothes up to their new rooms. I was filled with so many emotions; I was anxious, scared, excited, and nervous all at the same time. The negative emotions went away as soon as I started meeting people in the dorm, and I quickly realized, “I’m going to love it here.”
I love ETSU for many reasons, but mainly because of the beautiful campus and the number of students enrolled. It is big enough get the university experience, but small enough where I feel like a person rather than a number. In my experience, I have realized that ETSU is blessed with great professors who are willing to meet with students outside of class and do what they can to help their students be successful. Another thing I love about ETSU is that no matter what you are interested in, you can find a club or organization in which to get involved. I joined Alpha Phi Omega, which is a co-ed service fraternity here on campus. I have made so many great friends while having the opportunity to do community service projects both on and off campus. So, no matter what your interests, there is something at ETSU for you, so jump in and get involved!!
I have no regrets about my decision to attend ETSU, and I feel certain that if you choose to become an ETSU Buccaneer, you will feel the same way! Hope to see you around campus!
