Individual Review. If
you do not meet the grade point average requirement to
transfer and you have not been enrolled in any institution
of higher education for at least three years, you may receive
individual review by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.
No Transferable Hours of Credit. If
you have not attempted any transferable hours, your admission
may be determined by a review of your high school credentials,
standardized test scores, and/or course work completed
at any degree granting institution of higher education.
One Term of Enrollment. If
you enrolled for one term only at any other college or
university and did not achieve the required grade point
average for transfer, and you meet regular ETSU
requirements for freshman admission or admission as an
exception, you may be admitted on appropriate academic
probation. Students admitted on probation are subject to
ETSU regulations regarding removal of probationary
status.

High School Course Requirements
If you began college study in fall 1989 or later
and you have not completed 60 semester hours of transferable
work or earned an associate’s degree designed for
transfer, you are subject to high school course requirements.
If you have not completed all these courses you will be
admitted, but you must remove any deficiencies within the
first 30 semester hours after you enroll at ETSU for the
first time.
COMPASS Testing
Review of your transfer credit may
determine that you must complete the COMPASS test in part
or total before registering
for classes. Transfer students with less than 60 semester
hours of credit who have not earned college-level math
or English credit must take COMPASS test(s) in the appropriate
area(s). For transfer students with less than 12 semester
hours of credit, assessment in reading is also required.

Other Information for Transfer Students
Deadlines.
Transfer applicants beginning fall 2007 must provide official transcript(s), application for admission, and application fee by the deadline date. If you are currently enrolled, a final transcript including the last semester of your enrollment may be provided after the deadline date. All previous semesters of enrollment at your college should be provided at the time of application.
Fall semester deadline date: August 15th
Spring semester deadline date: December 15th
Transfer Credit. The
Office of Admissions evaluates courses for transfer to
ETSU using historical precedent, current articulated program
information, and/or review by the appropriate ETSU college
dean and faculty. For more information, see Checking
Course Equivalencies or contact the Office of Admissions at 1-800-462-3878
or 423-439-4213 or Go2ETSU@mail.etsu.edu. Grades accepted
in transfer become a part of your ETSU grade point average.
Transfer grades are computed in the same manner as they
would be if you had earned them at ETSU (including repeated
courses). However, ETSU does not recognize forgiveness
policies or academic bankruptcies administered by other
institutions. For more information, see the Undergraduate
Catalog.
Degree Requirements. Transfer
students must complete enough work in residence at ETSU in
both the major and minor to satisfy the chair of the departments
that they are qualified in the major and minor fields. Transfer
students must take a minimum of six semester hours at ETSU
in the major field.
ETSU Proficiency-Intensive
Requirements. ETSU requires undergraduate students
to complete across-the-curriculum requirements in writing,
oral communication and information technology. You must
meet these requirements with courses you take at ETSU;
courses in transfer do not satisfy the requirements.
