The Annual Fund

The individual college solicitation is highlighted by a letter from the dean which includes some update information conveying the most pressing financial needs of the particular college or school. To facilitate the giving process, other contents of the direct-mail piece include a gift information form, a listing of the scholarships by college or program area, and a listing of named endowments that may be of interest to the donor. Prior to the mailing of the college-by-college solicitation, a general letter from the vice president of University Advancement is sent with a general giving brochure providing an opportunity for alumni who have been active donors and wish not to be called during the phonathon. During the spring, several of the colleges have added a newsletter to provide additional cultivation opportunities and a second wave of information about the activities in their respective academic disciplines.
