JOHNSON CITY -- Officers, board members and new members were elected during the East Tennessee State University Foundation annual board and membership meeting Thursday, May 10.
The membership of the Foundation consists of 300 individuals who devote their time and financial resources to the continuous improvement of educational opportunities at ETSU.
The Foundation elected officers to serve from July 1, 2001, through June 30, 2002. Dennis T. Powell, owner of Dennis Powell Body Shop, Johnson City, was elected president, and Tim P. Jones, general manager and vice president of Press Inc., Johnson City, was elected vice president. Secretary is Dr. Steve Conerly of Management Services/Strategic Planning, Johnson City. Charles Steagall, partner, Blackburn Childers Steagall, PLC, Johnson City, continues as treasurer. Past president is Stuart E. Wood Jr., president of Holston Distributing Co., Johnson City.
Leslie Parks Pope, chair, The Parks Group, LLC, Johnson City, continues as Tennessee Board of Regents Representative; Wayne G. Basler, former director, AFG Industries Inc., Kingsport, continues as the Representative of Past Presidents; and Donald R. Raber, president, Aldebaran Financial Inc., Kingsport, continues as chair of the Investment Committee for the Foundation.
The following were elected to serve three-year terms on the board of directors ending June 30, 2004: Dale Keasling, president, Home Federal Bank, Knoxville; D. Roger Kennedy, president/CEO, AFG Industries Inc., Kingsport; Tom Krieger, retired business executive, Jonesborough; R. Odie Major, president, SunTrust Bank, Johnson City; and Kenneth Simonds, former CEO, Teradata, and chairman, MasPar corporations, Indian Wells, Calif.
The following were elected to serve a second three-year term on the board ending June 30, 2004: Gene Burleson, health care entrepreneur, Atlanta; Louis H. Gump, president and CEO, Impact Management Inc., Johnson City; C.C. Marshall, owner, Mountcastle Corp., Johnson City; R.T. "Rab" Summers, president and CEO, Summers-Taylor Inc., Elizabethton; and Robert Walters, retired business executive, Johnson City.
The Foundation welcomed 10 new members:
- Gray: Richard Shadden, secretary/general manager, Appalachian Fair Association
- Johnson City: John Ayers, area sales manager, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co.; Ken Bates, Megan and Me Investments/Little Caesars Pizza; Dr. Thomas B. McGinnis, Johnson City Urological Clinic; Robert M. Plummer, associate vice president for university advancement/executive director, Alumni Association, ETSU; James W. Reel, CEO, International Computer Marketing Corp., Norcross, Ga.; Dr. Charles Votaw, retired executive associate dean for academic affairs, ETSU James H. Quillen College of Medicine; and Dr. May Votaw, retired chief of the Oncology Division, department of internal medicine, Quillen College of Medicine
- Kingsport: Olan Jones, president and CEO, Eastman Credit Union
- Rogersville: Frank Proffitt, president and regional executive, Hawkins County Bank
In addition, 25 individuals renewed their membership in the Foundation through June 30, 2009: Scott MacMorran and Joe Macione, Bristol; John Seward Jr. and Richard Tetrick, Elizabethton; Brandon Hull, Greeneville; Dr. Charles E.
