African and African American Studies embraces the research, interpretation, and dissemination of knowledge related to African civilizations and peoples of African heritage. Using the tools of the social sciences and humanities, the program examines the social, political, economic, economic, and cultural issues of Africa and the African Diaspora, past and present. Components of the Program: The program in African and African American Studies is an interdisciplinary program, encompassing the study of the history of Africa and the African Diaspora. Its professors are involved in disciplines that include art, criminal justice, geography, history, literature, music, political science, and sociology. Using the tools of the social sciences and humanities, the program examines the political, social, economic, geographical, and historical development of Africa and the African Diaspora. MISSION STATEMENT The African and African American Studies Program at ETSU is committed to promoting scholarship, public service, and intellectual growth. The program is dedicated to providing undergraduate and graduate courses in the social sciences and humanities. Also, part of its mission is to prepare students for careers in a variety of fields, such as education, law, journalism, administrative work, business, social work, museums, and politics.
