Epidemic Influenza A H1N1

There are now confirmed and probable cases of the new Influenza A H1N1 in Tennessee.

 a)The ETSU Health & Safety Office continues to work with various ETSU staff and Emergency Management Team members to implement appropriate components of our Influenza Preparedness Plan.
 b)There is open communication between ETSU Influenza Preparedness Team members and the Regional Health Department regarding local measures concerning the influenza H1N1 problem.
 c)At this time, university classes, various university programs and commencement exercises are proceeding as scheduled.
 d)Students and faculty with a flu-like illness (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches), should not attend class or other large gatherings and should seek medical attention.
 e)Student Health Service is fully apprised of the overall situation and is prepared to provide necessary services.
 f)Students and staff should observe good personal hygiene measures as proposed by CDC including hand washing, covering one’s mouth during cough or sneeze and trying to avoid crowded settings if you have a respiratory illness.
 g)Note that CDC continues to discourage non-essential travel to Mexico at this time.
