Coach Walker came to ETSU as a football player and a track performer from New York. After graduation, he joined the professional ranks with the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Colts. Walker coached for a time at an Atlanta high school, but returned to the Buccaneers as an assistant football coach. He soon began devoting all of his time to track and field, and became noted for his recruiting efforts in cross country while he built the famed "Irish Brigade." He is responsible for the founding of the East Tennessee Invitational, an indoor track meet held in Memorial Center which attracts the world's most renowned runners and field performers. He has been selected Track Coach of the Year by the OVC and the Southern Conferences numerous times.
