Mr. Kovach, an author and lecturer, has received numerous honors and awards, including the National Mental Health Association Bell Award and the New York State Bar Association. The recipient of a Stanford Professional Journalism Fellowship and a National Foundation grant worked for the Johnson City Press-Chronicle and the Nashville Tennessean prior to joining the New York Times as its Washington bureau chief.
