This fall ETSU will proudly unveil a tribute to the recipients of the prestigious George L. Carter Award with a new wall of honor. The recognition wall will be the latest addition to the Alumni Gallery located in the foyer of the Martha Street Culp Auditorium in the D.P. Culp University Center. The project was made possible through the generosity of General Shale Brick in partnership with the ETSU Foundation.
Handcrafted
by some of the region’s most gifted designers, brick
artists and masons, the Carter Wall is a detailed and
uniquely styled monument.
Its design and structure are the result of many months
of detailed planning and hours of professional brick masonry.
The
wall features a handcrafted brick image of Carter created
by Mr. Johnny Hagerman
an artist with General Shale. The designer is Kelly Wall
of the company design staff; The structure construction
was done by General Shale staff masons. The wall will
display images of those who have been honored with this
prestigious award spanning back over a decade.
The wall, base structure was completed in May. The final product will be unveiled during our 2004 Homecoming activities and will serve as a lasting tribute to those current and future honorees. Named for ETSU’s first major benefactor, the Carter Award is the highest honor bestowed upon individuals by the Alumni Association.
