Ring Ceremony
 

 

The Ring Ceremony for the spring semester will be held on April 25, 2013 from 5:30-7 P.M. on the second floor in the Burgin-Dossett (administration) building.


Ring Ceremony is hosted by the ETSU Alumni Association and Balfour Rings.  A reception will follow    the presentation of rings for the ring recipients and their families.

ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland and Dr. Richard A. Manahan, Vice President of University Advancement will present the official ETSU rings to students who have earned at least 60 hours.

Balfour Jewelers is the university’s supplier of the class rings. All rings are custom crafted. The designs of the official rings are based upon ETSU’s legacy of values and traditions.

The Ring – A World of Meaning

Custom crafted for East Tennessee State University, the designs of the "Official Rings" are based upon ETSU's legacy of values and traditions. Each time you look at the intricate ETSU Ring, you will find yourself back on campus, once more in the shadow of the mountains.

Prominently featured on the top of the Ring is the official ETSU seal with the East Tennessee State University name spelled out around it. A diamond, blue sapphire or a cubic zirconium can be incorporated into the ETSU seal. The right side of the ring features historical and traditional images. Included are the front steps of Gilbreath Hall, the first building on campus named after Sidney G. Gilbreath, the first university president with words from the Alma Mater, a banner inscribed with In the Shadow of the Mountains flies above the original university building representing our university's debt to the regional setting, traditions, and heritage of the Appalachians. Pictured in the distance from the Hall is the Amphitheater, built in 1936 designed by Charles C. Sherrod, second university president. Embraced in the Amphitheater is the graduates degree.

The left side of the ring features contemporary images including the Charles C. Sherrod Library, built in 1999, with the year of graduation above. Surrounded by the class year is the torch of knowledge with carefully shaped flames creating the word PRIDE. All these elements come together to symbolize the university's past, present and future—an ETSU graduate ready to carry on the ETSU legacy.

All rings are custom-made in your choice of 10K and 14K yellow and white gold and are available in either an antique or natural finish. 18K yellow or white gold may also be available; please contact Balfour for pricing. The inside of the ring can also be engraved with the recipient's name, degree and class year.
