Event Description
JOHNSON CITY – A new website has been established to make it easier for more faculty and staff to volunteer for an existing campus program that helps students find information they need.
The “Ask Me” program now offers online training for those interested at www.etsu.edu/askme. Participating individuals may notify Dr. Carla Warner, director of Adult, Commuter and Transfer Services and coordinator of the “Ask Me” program, that they have done so. Then, the familiar blue and yellow “Ask Me” signs or decals will arrive in campus mail for participants to display on their desks or doors, signifying to students that they are available to help.
“ETSU is eager to help all our students – undergraduate and graduate – achieve their educational goals,” Warner said. “Often, however, students don’t know where to turn when they have questions or problems related to being in college.
“The purpose of the ‘Ask Me’ program is to make it easier for students to share their questions with ETSU’s faculty and staff, so we can connect them with the help they need.”
Warner encourages as many faculty and staff as possible to volunteer, and notes that the job isn’t difficult.
“As an ‘Ask Me’ volunteer, your job is simple, but vitally important – to listen to our students’ questions and help them get answers,” she said. “You don’t have to know the answer to every question, but you are willing to provide a ready point of contact for our students and refer them to offices and individuals who can help.”
In addition to the training module, the “Ask Me” booklet for participating faculty and staff is now online at the program website, and is both searchable and printable.
