JOHNSON CITY (Posted Feb. 22, 2013) – East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Studies will host a Mid-Semester All Bands Performance, with student bands presenting a wide array of traditional music on Wednesday, Feb. 27, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Brown Hall auditorium.

Founded in 1982 by Jack Tottle, Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Studies at ETSU is the oldest established program of its kind at any four-year institution and boasts the world’s first bachelor of arts degree in bluegrass, old time and country music.

Bands within the program are comprised of student performers, and over the course of the program’s history, these bands have performed at venues across the United States, often appearing with artists that include such bluegrass and country music luminaries as Alison Krauss, Del McCoury, Dan Tyminski, Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs and the late Porter Wagoner.

Current bands in Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Studies scheduled to perform include Heart of Appalachia, Stone Drive, Kingsport Strings, Bluegrass Firelight, New Band, Bluegrass Ambassadors, Big Muddy and Fall Creek.
