Event Description

JOHNSON CITY (March 6, 2013) – Kappa Delta Sorority at East Tennessee State University will host the annual Shamrock Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 13, at Baileyton Golf Club in Greeneville. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The registration fee of $200 for a team of four includes breakfast before the morning tee time and lunch for both tee times.

The tournament is dedicated to raising funds for the prevention of child abuse. Eighty percent of the proceeds collected will remain in Tennessee, benefiting the local Coalition for Kids and Children’s Advocacy Center. The remaining 20 percent will go to Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America), the sorority’s national philanthropy, for nationwide public awareness programs. Opportunities are available for hole and t-shirt sponsorship.

Kappa Delta will also host a $5 all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at Applebee’s restaurant in Johnson City on Saturday, April 6, from 8-10 a.m.

“We are excited to be hosting our 13th annual Shamrock Golf Tournament,” says Katie Buchanan, Kappa Delta vice president of community service. “We’ve been fundraising and working hard to prepare for the event and can’t wait to see our hard work pay off. We are honored to be able to give back to the community in this way. The Coalition for Kids and the Children’s Advocacy Center are great organizations that provide many resources for the children of this area.”

According to recent PCA America statistics, the number of children abused or neglected in the United States grew by 33 percent to reach a level of 3,244,000 in the last decade. Confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect were estimated at more than one million in 1999. Three children die each day from abuse or neglect across the country.

Founded in 1897, Kappa Delta Sorority began supporting PCA America in 1981, and began the nationwide Shamrock Event in 1983. More than $6 million has been raised through these events to benefit child abuse prevention efforts.
