Event Description

JOHNSON CITY (November 28, 2012) – East Tennessee State University’s Johnson City Community Health Center (JCCHC) is offering the opportunity for better health as the holidays approach, with a morning of free diagnostic screenings and health education.

The public is invited to visit the new, state-of-the-art JCCHC for “Healthy Holidays” from 8 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Dec. 1. ETSU faculty members from the College of Nursing and the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences will provide the health screenings, and students training under faculty supervision will also participate.

The two ETSU colleges have partnered to offer a wide spectrum of primary health care and specialized health services at the new facility, located at 2151 Century Lane, behind Woodridge Hospital on North State of Franklin Road. JCCHC, which is managed by the College of Nursing, opened in October and replaced the Johnson City Downtown Clinic. It is one of the few nurse-managed Community Health Centers in the nation to receive the prestigious designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center.

Patients who come to Saturday’s health fair can receive blood pressure and blood sugar checks, as well as cholesterol tests. Faculty members and students will also perform hearing screenings and screenings for speech, language and executive function for children and adults. Nutrition screening and education will also be available.

For more information, call JCCHC at (423) 926-2500.
