JOHNSON CITY (Posted Nov. 1, 2012) — In observance of Veterans Day, the East Tennessee State University Department of Military Science, Student Veterans Association and Veterans Affairs Standing Committee will hold a ceremony on Friday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. to honor and remember those who have served their country through military service. The public is invited to attend.

The event, which will take place at the Veterans Memorial in front of Memorial Hall (home of Brooks Gymnasium), will feature the ETSU Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadets placing a wreath while “Taps” is played.

Col. Kyle Redman will offer remarks at the ceremony. He is an ROTC graduate of Carson-Newman College and has over 29 years of commissioned military service. His notable assignments include the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii; the Military Entrance Processing Station in Portland, Maine; the 1st Battalion 320th Infantry Regiment, United States Army Reserve, which he commanded. He served one tour in Iraq and another in Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division.

In his civilian career, Redman serves as deputy chief probation and parole officer in Southwest Virginia. He has been married to the former Cheryl Dotson for 31 years. The couple has two children, Andrew, a graduate of ETSU, and Sylvia, a student at Carson-Newman.

Guests are reminded that the center of the ETSU campus surrounding Memorial Hall is now closed to automobile traffic.
