Event Description

JOHNSON CITY (November 2, 2012) – East Tennessee State University’s student Residence Hall Association will host the South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls’ (SAACURH) regional conference Nov. 9-11.

The SAACURH 2012 Conference will be attended by over 750 student delegates and advisers from more than 70 college and universities. This will be the largest conference SAACURH has held since 2005, the first time it has been hosted by a Tennessee college or university since 2001, and the first time it has ever been hosted at ETSU.

SAACURH 2012 will be an educational experience for resident student leaders across the region. The conference will feature a wide range of program sessions on leadership, personal and professional development, and programming opportunities. Dr. Brian Noland, ETSU’s president, will address the conference on Friday evening, and Dr. Brenda White Wright, motivational speaker and ETSU alumna, will present a workshop on Saturday evening.

The SAACURH region is one of eight regions of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) and is made up of the nine southeastern states of Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Virginia. Additionally, each state has its own state association run by a board made up of resident students.

NACURH is considered the largest student-run organization in the world and has a membership of over 400 schools from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Qatar. The organization promotes living on campus as an integral part of the college experience and strives to provide resources to help member schools create the ultimate residence hall environment, as well as promote personal leadership development.

Currently, the national chair for NACURH is Zack Walden, a senior at ETSU, and the Tennessee Association of Residence Halls state director is Tyler Carpenter, a junior at ETSU.
