Event Description
The Mary B. Martin School of the Arts, in cooperation with South Arts 2012-13 Southern Circuit of Independent Filmmakers, presents Eating Alabama, a documentary film.
In search of a simpler life, a young couple returns home to Alabama where they set out to eat the way their grandparents did – locally and seasonally. But as they navigate the agro-industrial gastronomical complex, they soon realize that nearly everything about the food system has changed since the time when farmers populated their family histories. A thoughtful and often funny essay on community, the South and sustainability, Eating Alabama is a story about why food matters.
Following a screening of the film, Producer/Director/Photographer/Editor/Writer Andrew Beck Grace and the audience will engage in a discussion about the film. A reception with the filmmaker follows.
The 2012-13 Southern Circuit is a program of South Arts. Southern Circuit screenings are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and local partner organizations. |
