"The Elixir of Love"

The ‘love’ potion.   Many songs and stories have been written about it, but none so enjoyable to the music lover as Donizetti’s opera The Elixir of Love.  Elixir is a lighthearted rendition of “boy loves girl and will do anything to make her love him”.  Cheap wine as the ‘elixir’ makes for many comedic moments, but the famous aria “Una furtiva lagrima” will remind everyone that the beauty of the voice is unlike any “potion” prescribed by man.

 Under the artistic vision of Opera Workshop Director, Karen Smith, this talented ETSU student cast will bring this work to life in a 1940’s setting.  Performed in English with a newly popular translation by Donald Pippin and an orchestra led by ETSU’s Choral Director, Dr. Alan Stevens, this will be a meeting of romance, comedy and all that belcanto (beautiful singing) melodies have to offer.
