‘Transcriptions’: ETSU Opening Spring Bands Concert

JOHNSON CITY (Posted Feb. 5, 2013) – “Transcriptions: Before and After” is the theme of the Opening Spring Bands Concert at East Tennessee State University on Friday, Feb. 15.

The free public concert featuring the ETSU Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds begins at 7:30 p.m. in the D.P. Culp University Center’s Martha Street Culp Auditorium.

According to ETSU Director of Bands Dr. Christian Zembower, the program includes works that were either written for band first, then transcribed for another ensemble later, or vice versa. Selections include John Adams’s “Short Ride in a Fast Machine,” William Schuman’s “Chester,” Arnold Schoenberg’s “Theme and Variations, Opus 43a” and Wagner’s “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral.”
