Event Description
JOHNSON CITY (February 27, 2013) – The Jonesborough Repertory Theatre will host “Seuss Sayings!” on Saturday, March 2, at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Also included in the one-hour shows will be a special “Sam I Am” tribute to Sam Mays, an artist well known in the arts and education community and an East Tennessee State University alumnus, who died suddenly on Feb. 7. He is celebrated for his support of civic causes, including the inauguration of an art school and mentoring program for graffiti offenders in Washington County and for the Blue Plum Festival’s Urban Art Throwdown.
A $5 donation per person is suggested at the door. Proceeds will benefit an ETSU scholarship fund in memory of Sam Mays.
“Seuss Sayings!” is the latest production of Susan Lachmann’s Laughing One Studios, and the March 2 date of the presentation coincides with the birthday of Theodore Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, and National Read Across America Day.
“This is a family fun show of stories, songs and play-alongs for children of all ages,” says Lachmann. “There will be lots of audience participation included and creative inventions on site.”
Three Dr. Seuss favorites will be performed by storyteller Kevin Tolley: “Green Eggs and Ham,” “The Lorax” and “The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories.” Lachmann notes, “Tolley brings a child-like joy and magic to his performance that will engage and enliven listeners.”
The Jonesborough Repertory Theatre is located at 125½ W. Main St., in Jonesborough.
