Event Description

JOHNSON CITY (February 27, 2013) – New books, films and other resources that provide information about Muslim beliefs and the practices and cultural heritage associated with Islamic civilizations are now available in the Sherrod Library at East Tennessee State University.

These new collections were made possible by a grant, “Muslim Journeys Bookshelf,” funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association Bridging Cultures initiative.

“There is great interest among the public to learn more about Islamic culture, and we are excited to have the opportunity through this grant to build our available collections,” said Patricia Van Zandt, ETSU dean of Libraries.

The Sherrod Library will also host a series of community events throughout 2013, beginning with “Growing Up Muslim in Johnson City,” a panel discussion that will be held on Thursday, March 7, from 4:30-6 p.m. in the D.P. Culp University Center forum.
