Event Description Student Half Recital
Zach Ross, baritone
Ty Lokey, tenor
Dr. Jennifer Marshall, piano
Hanbo Ma, piano
Zach Ross began his study of music as a percussionist at the age of fourteen in his high school band program. Soon after, he began writing his own songs, accompanying himself on guitar and piano. This triggered his independent exploration of popular music, where he was inspired by folk, rock, ambient, electronic, hip-hop, and blues styles. Ross began singing in theatre, performing in roles such as Gideon in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Abel Frake in State Fair. In the fall of 2011, he began his study of classical voice technique and repertoire at ETSU with the training of Dr. Thomas Jenrette. In the fall of 2012 Ross began a study of pop and gospel vocal music with the ETSU group 10BucsWorth. Now, in the spring of 2013, he will present a baritone recital that will feature the music of Francis Poulenc, Gustav Mahler, George Frideric Handel, Stefano Donaudy, and Jean Berger.
Ty Lokey started his musical career as a percussionist at the age of ten and then began playing saxophone. He was involved in the band playing saxophone through his senior year in high school and then became the Drum Major for Daniel Boone High School Marching Band during the 2009-2010 season. His musical background interested the choral director at Daniel Boone and then was asked to join the Blazer Bells hand bell choir, during which he served three years. Ty has also performed with an advanced choral group called " The Reflections" through his junior and senior years. This notable group allowed him to participate in the All-State choir as a First Tenor. Through Ty's self-exploration of music theory and practices in high school he was eligible to become, and still serving as, the Adjunct Major for the Watauga Valley Fife & Drum association.
