| A House Not of Our Choosing: Sculptural Installation by Melisa Cadell |
|
Event Description
The ETSU Department of Art & Design and the Slocumb Galleries in partnership with the Urban Redevelopment Alliance present North Carolina sculptor Melisa Cadell’s installation entitled “A House Not of Our Choosing” from March 1 to 8, 2013 at the Tipton Gallery. The artist reception is on First Friday, March 1, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Cadell’s latest works are life-size paper sculpture which represent her thoughts about confinement and the transcendence of the human body. She skillfully presents the figure as a vessel which invites the viewer to contemplate more than the skin-like surfaces of her work. The sculptural installation is a new direction for Cadell and promises to offer the audience her signature, thought provoking request for dialogue.
Tipton Gallery is located at 126 Spring Street, Downtown Johnson City. Gallery Hours are Wed. 4-6 pm and Friday 5-7 p.m. with extended hours during reception and by appointment. Open to public free of charge. Contact SG Director Karlota via email contrera@etsu.edu or call 423-483-3179. For more information about the artist, visit www.cadellstudios.org. |
