Event Description In January 2013 ETSU’s Sherrod Library was honored to be awarded a grant, Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys, which includes a collection of books, films, and other resources chosen to help familiarize the American public with Islam and the cultural heritage of Islamic civilizations around the world. It is intended to address both the need and the desire of the American public for trustworthy and accessible resources about Muslim beliefs and practices and the cultural heritage associated with Islamic civilizations. As part of the grant the ETSU’s Sherrod Library will sponsor programing to enlighten and stimulate public interest in Muslim culture and Islamic religion. Our first event is a panel discussion “Growing up Muslim in Johnson City.” Panel participants will speak about their experiences growing up as part of Muslim families in Johnson City and will answer questions from the audience. This event will be held on Thursday, March 7th at the Culp Center in the Forum Room from 4:30 – 6:00pm. |
