Event Description This lecture will discuss cognition as a collective phenomenon arising from the interplay of components in a distributed system. As the brain is established by billions of interacting neurons also fish swarms, ant colonies and even colonies of bacteria exhibit the ability of processing information and of making collective decisions. The focus will be on the cognitive capabilities of honeybee colonies showing how the colony as a whole can establish similar processes to those of a human brain (sense, memory, forgetting, act, decide, etc.) |
