Event Description October 21 – 27 is No Impact Week at ETSU! This event was inspired by No Impact Man Colin Beavan, a resident of New York City who made an extraordinary attempt to live more simply and more in balance with the natural environment. During his year-long endeavor, Beavan and his family made it their mission to live a zero-waste lifestyle: they bought nothing except necessities, produced little to no trash, traveled exclusively by walking or biking, and turned off their electricity. Following the success of Beavan’s blog, book, and film about his experience with his “No Impact Project”, he designed a website which would guide others through the same process. Universities and individuals now participate in a guided “No Impact Project” of their own, typically for the duration of one week. Each day of the week encompasses a theme; themes for No Impact Week at ETSU will include consumption, trash, transportation, energy, food, water, and volunteering/reflection. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate so we can work together to make ETSU a more sustainable campus. For a listing of the week's events and a more detailed look at how to make your week a success, visit the homepage at gogreen.etsu.edu. |
