Event Description The ETSU Community is invited to join President Noland, Student Government and a number of partnering organizaitons and offices in the kick-off to the University's first Civility Week. A week of activities planned specifically to cultivate a deeper understanding and value of diversity while nurturing a culture of kindness, courtesy and respect on campus. "The Label" is an evening to talk about language and stereotypes that continue to persist and demean individuals and populations of people in our communities. The conversation will begin with a debriefing of a student demonstration that will occur earlier in the day and continue in the direction that participants choose to take it. Faculty and students will serve as facilitiators and provide a variety of perspectives. Civility Week has been established with the objectives of: * Providing individuals at ETSU exposure to and understanding of cultures, customs, beleifs and general way of life that may be different from their own; *Engaging the campus community in conversations about diversity, human behavior and respect; and *Working together to recognize and eliminate incivility, while finding ways to help EVERYONE feel welcome, appreciated and safe at ETSU. |
