1.
When should I register with Career Services?
We encourage students to register with Career
and Internship Services as soon as
they begin classes. Your file should be updated
each academic year. If you register early you
will be familiar with all placement and career
services, and have a current resume to help you
search for summer, part-time, internship or
full-time opportunities. You can also talk with
employers at our
job fairs.

Internships (also called cooperative education)
are available Fall, Spring and Summer semesters
on our web site at
Cooperative Education and Internships. Most
internships pay a salary and all are for academic
credit. Opportunities open will be listed on
the web site.
Yes, list your GPA on your resume if it is 3.0
or above. List in the following manner: GPA:
3.4 under the Education section of your resume.
You may list either your overall or major GPA,
whichever is higher. You may also list both
using the above format. High school experiences should not be included unless they were important, and specifically related to the career and work opportunity you are seeking. 6. Can my resume be longer than one page? Usually, when receiving your bachelor's degree, a one page resume is preferred. Multiple pages are acceptable for experienced people and those receiving a graduate degree. Do not use the backside of a resume page for printed material. 7. What do I wear to the interview ? Dress in professional business attire for all interviews, all majors, unless the employer provides other information. 8. Can I get information about starting salaries in my major? This information is available in the Career and Internship Services Office and can be adjusted by office staff for cost-of-living differences in different geographic cities. Call the office at 423-439-4441 for an estimate of what your skills might be worth in the market place. |
