Why study Criminal Justice?

Service. Integrity. Honor.

There is a lot more to the study of criminal justice than popular television dramas like Law & Order would have you believe. Yet, these kinds of shows, crime novels, and sensational news stories have heightened our awareness of criminal justice and its necessary presence in our daily lives. Security issues have become increasingly debated after the attack of 9/11 and Homeland Security has changed the way Americans look at safety within their community and state.

A degree in criminal justice from ETSU prepares you for one of many careers or becomes a foundation for many other professional opportunities. You might consider a career in law enforcement in a local police or sheriff’s department or as a state trooper. Some of our graduates find careers with correctional agencies as probation-parole officers with the state or with private probation agencies. Graduates use their undergraduate degree in criminal justice to continue their education for the purposes of entering federal law enforcement agencies like the FBI, DEA, U.S. Marshal's Service, or Secret Service. Some use it as a basis for launching a career in law.

If you’re interested in the study of criminal justice and are looking for a career based on service and integrity, then ETSU is where your future begins.
