Why Study Political Science?

Engagement. Involvement. Skill.

Are you interested in American and international politics? Do you savor a debate on current issues? Are you concerned about the environment, civil liberties, or terrorism? If political debate is your passion, then a degree in political science is for you.

You are choosing to major in an area that will prepare you for a variety of professions and gives you invaluable skills such as critical thinking, writing, debate, and research that you will use throughout your career. Many of our graduates pursue opportunities in a variety of areas including business, government, and education. Career opportunities are many and include the law, journalism, politics, private organizations, foundations, public affairs, marketing, finance and more. With a degree in political science you are also preparing yourself to be an involved person in your community whether you choose to volunteer in a local organization or seek an elected office.

Being passionate about the world around you and having a desire to be part of the process is what makes the student of political science a student of the world. At ETSU we will give you the skills you need to meet the challenges of the future.
