College of Arts and Sciences B.A. and B.S. Degree Requirements

Students majoring in the College of Arts and Sciences must meet the following requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.). Some requirements must be taken in addition to the General Education Core, whereas others specify which courses from the General Education Core must be taken. Students interested in degree programs in Fine Arts (B.F.A.), Music (B.M.), or Social Work (B.S.W.) should consult the appropriate departmental section of this catalog for specific information.

Foreign Languages	Completion of a foreign language course numbered 2020 or above with a grade of C- or better. *  **	None

Mathematics	Specified General Education Core: MATH 1530 or MATH 1910	Specified General Education Core: MATH 1530 or MATH 1910, as specified by major
Natural Sciences	General Education Core	Eight (8) credit hours in a SINGLE laboratory science from the following+: 1.  ASR 1010 AND ASTR 1020 2. BIOL1010/BIOL 1011 AND BIOL 1020/1121 3.  BIOL 1110-BIOL 1111 AND BIOL 1120-BIOL 1121 or BIOL 1130-BIOL1131 4.  CHEM 1110/CHEM 1111 AND CHEM 1120/CHEM 1121 5.  GEOL 1040 AND GEOL 1050 (labs included) 6.  GEOG 1110 and GEOG 1120 (labs included) 7.  PHYS 2010/PHYS 2011 and PHYS 2020/PHYS 2021; or PHYS 2110 AND PHYS  2120 *Higher-level laboratory courses in these departments also meet this requirement.

*International students whose native language is not English, and whose admission to ETSU requires them to take a standardized test of English as a foreign language (e.g., TOEFL), may substitute scores that meet the admission requirements for the foreighn language requirement.

Catalogs Prior to 2010

Students are assigned to the current catalog at the time of first entrance into ETSU. Transfer students may receive a no obligation shift back to the catalog in effect upon their first entrance into higher education by request to the graduation office in the Office of the Registrar. If graduation does not occur within six years of the catalog of record, students must (1) shift to the current catalog or (2) receive a catalog extension from the dean of the college of the major. Students may request one change of catalog (in addition to the no obligation change described above) from the graduation office. This request can conveniently occur at the time of application for graduation.
