The Chemistry Department offers several awards and scholarships to chemistry majors and students who enroll in chemistry courses. Awards are voted on in the department and are presented to the students with excellence in chemistry and overall academic achievement at a yearly departmental banquet. Scholarships may be applied for by using the Scholarship Application.
Thomas W. Whitehead Award: to an outstanding chemistry major who has completed general chemistry, based on scholastic achievement.
Clifford C. Boyd Award: to an outstanding chemistry major who has completed organic chemistry and quantitative analysis, based on scholastic achievement.
D. G. Nicholson Award: to an outstanding chemistry major who has completed physical chemistry, based on scholastic achievement.
NETS-ACS Award: to an outstanding senior by the Northeast Tennessee Section of the American Chemical Society.
Boris Franzus Award: to student(s) with excellence in undergraduate organic chemistry.
Roesel Award: to the student with the highest grade point
average in the sciences.
Thomas T.-S. Huang Endowed Scholarship: a one-year renewable
scholarship awarded to an entering Freshman chemistry major.
Delmas & Wanda Blevins Dugger Chemistry Scholarship Endowment: - Each applicant must have completed a minimum of two semesters at ETSU, with an overall GPA of 3.0 or better; must have declared Chemistry as his/her major at ETSU; must have 8.0 credit hours (two semesters) in General Chemistry; should demonstrate financial need; and should preferably be a resident of Johnson, Carter, Washington, Unicoi or Sullivan counties in Tennessee.
