professor receives achievement award for special flying effects JOHNSON
CITY - Dr. Delbert Hall, associate professor in the department of communication
at East Tennessee State University, has received a Meritorious Achievement Award
from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for "Special
Flying Effects Design" for "Hamlet" performed at the University
of Minnesota, Duluth. During
a special residency at UMD last April, Hall taught workshops on stage rigging,
and he rigged the flying effects for the theatre's production of
"Hamlet." Hall
designs and rigs flying effects throughout the United States. He is president of
the North American Association of Flying Effects Directors and chair of the
Entertainment Technical Services Association's workgroup that is writing a
national standard for flying performers. He
recently conducted a rigging safety workshop, sponsored by the United States
Institute for Theatre Technology, at Expo 2001 in Baltimore. Spring
brings numerous performances with flying effects for Hall, including four ballet
productions and several musical productions of "Peter Pan," as well as
a number of Easter productions. For
