This is to advise you of an opening on our staff for the position of PART-TIME NEWS ASSIGNMENT EDITOR.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         One (1) year experience on a news assignment desk preferred.                                                                 

·         Working knowledge of the Internet and computers.

·         Flexibility to work as needed within station hours of operations, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

·         College degree preferred.       

·         Ability to work in a team-based environment.

·         Professional appearance and behavior.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Maintain daily operation of the assignment desk.

·         Coordinate news crews to ensure timely and efficient coverage of breaking news stories.

·         Research, develop, and set up stories.

·         Coordinate satellite feeds going in and out of the station.

·         Provide pertinent information to producers and reporters for newscasts.

·         Monitor police, fire, and other emergency radio transmissions for story leads.

·         Make “beat” calls to local public safety agencies.

·         Act as liaison between station and other CBS affiliates and CNN news service.

·         Handle incoming phone calls from viewers.
