East Tennessee State University's Department of Communication is one of about 106 programs in the nation accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). ETSU's communication department is recognized for maintaining standards that qualify their graduates to pursue a higher education or professional practice.

"The council believes that students can best prepare for careers in journalism and mass communications by studying in accredited professional programs at colleges and universities," says the ACEJMC policies handbook. "The council embraces the value of a liberal arts and sciences curriculum as the essential foundation for a professional journalism and mass communications education."

The accredited programs offer education to prepare students for careers in:

• Newspaper or Magazine Journalism
• Photojournalism
• Public Relations
• Radio and Television Broadcasting
