Public relations is essential to business and organizations – even university departments – but so few people really know what public and media relations are. Is it glamorous? It’s really hard work and sometimes late nights. Is it lucrative? You may not get rich, but you can make a good living at it. Is it exciting and ever-changing? Always! Public relations professionals work in big cities and tiny towns, at large educational institutions and smaller private schools, for “big business” and homegrown non-profits. They write, design, organize, plan events, act as liaison with media and write, write, write some more. Life in PR is never dull, and in ETSU’s Department of Communication, soon-to-be PR practitioners will learn the basic skills of writing, editing and publications design, but also serve clients throughout those classes with a capstone opportunity to work for the department- and student-run PR firm for community and campus clients. Students who are looking for real experience, chances to get published and printed before they graduate and plenty of practical experience can start their search in ETSU’s Public Relations Division. Find out what PR really is and what a difference it can make in the business world.
