The Division of Theatre & Dance offers professional training in a liberal arts setting. We prepare undergraduate students for careers in the performing arts and theatre education by providing a broad-based foundation in theatre and dance through individualized mentoring.
Our diverse faculty, comprised of working professional artists dedicated to advancing the discipline, offer instruction in stage and film performance, dramaturgy, design and technology, and unique areas such as Aerial Dance and Entertainment Rigging.
Our program is distinct in that it focuses on addressing each student's needs whether they seek a career as a performer, designer, technician, educator or other chosen profession.
The Division of Theatre & Dance produces 4 mainstage productions per year in the Bud Frank Theatre, located in Gilbreath Hall on ETSU's main campus. This 209 seat proscenium stage is named after the Theatre Program founder Harold (Bud) Frank, who taught acting and directing in the Department of Communication along with his wife Daryl, who specialized in children's theatre and stage movement. Additionally experimental works are produced in the newly renovated Studio 205, a black box theatre located in the Campus Center Building on the main campus.
