The English Department at East Tennessee State University offers an Honors Program to challenge the most dedicated and passionate students. Consisting of 18 hours of honors courses, the program offers exciting and challenging writing-intensive classes plus an honors thesis.

Students enrolled in Honors-in-Discipline programs qualify for out-of-state tuition waivers. Some scholarships are available for in-state students. The English Honors Program can become part of an English major or minor. However, we have many English HID students from other departments.

Several of the honors courses fulfill general education requirements; Honors composition courses fulfill the Written Composition requirement and the Honors Literature Surveys fulfill the Literature requirement in Humanities and Fine Arts.
