Program Overview
Science First! is a project supported through a grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Graduate Education GK-12 program. The grant supports nine M.S. students as graduate fellows who conduct research in a variety of fields within Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics. In addition, they spend approximately 15 hours per week working with the teachers at North Side Elementary School of Math, Science and Technology to develop resources and revise the curriculum to one that is focused around science and mathematics. They produce classroom activities, demonstrations and videos, and identify web-based and other resources that can be used to enhance the teaching of science and mathematics. They are currently developing on-line resource centers that will provide the teachers with a wealth of resources literally at their fingertips.
