Science First! was a project supported through a grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Graduate Education GK-12 program. The grant supported nine M.S. students as graduate fellows who conducted research in a variety of fields within Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, or Mathematics/Statistics. In addition, they spent approximately 15 hours per week working with the teachers at North Side Elementary School of Math, Science and Technology to develop resources and revise the curriculum to one that was focused around science and mathematics. They produced classroom activities, demonstrations and videos, and identified web-based and other resources that could be used to enhance the teaching of science and mathematics. They developed on-line resource centers that provided the teachers with a wealth of resources literally at their fingertips.
