Awards and Scholarships

The Department of History has several awards and scholarships which are periodically awarded to History majors.

The Rogers Award and the Crawford-Williams Award

These two awards are awarded in the Spring of the academic year and by the determination of the Awards Committee and the faculty of the Department. These awards go to the senior students with the highest GPAs.

The Brown Scholars Award

The Brown Scholars Award was established by Ms. Barbara Silvers and the Shulman Family Foundation, to honor the career of Dr. Morton Brown, an emeritus memeber of the Department of History. Beyond wishing to give public recognition to an exceptional teacher, Ms. Silvers wished to encourage the study of History. The scholarships are available periodically to outstanding undergraduate History majors.

The Brown Scholars awards are not normally made on an annual basis, but rather at the discretion of the Awards Committee and the faculty of the department.

The Barbara Jaffe Silvers Memorial Fellowships

The Barbara Jaffe Silvers Fellowships were established by Mr. Herb Silvers, in memory of Ms. Barbara Silvers, former student in the Department of History and later, adjunct faculty member, colleague, and friend. The fellowships are normally awarded on a yearly basis.
