media, art, and radio. For each media type, the site features several
segments focused on particular aspects of that media. For example, the

these different branches of the arts to create a rich and coherent

"A collection of 2,900 documents from the Folklore
Project of the Federal Writers' Project, a WPA program that collected a
series of American life histories during the depression. The Library of
Congress collection includes 2,900 documents representing the work of
over 300 writers from 24 states. The documents, which are searchable by
state and subject, include interview drafts and revisions and describe
the informant's family education, income, occupation, political views,
religion and mores, medical needs, diet, and miscellaneous
observations."*

"Over 13,000 images of objects from the Federal
Theatre Project Collection at the Library of Congress. The Federal
Theater Project, one of the five art branches of the Works Progress
Administration during the Great Depression. The collection focuses on
three FTP productions: The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus by
Christopher Marlowe, Macbeth by William Shakespeare, and Power by Arthur
Arent. Scripts, scores, playbills, and advertisements for these
productions are on display, as well as other materials from the Federal
Theater Project."*
Michigan Historical Museum,
"Online gallery tours of the Michigan Historical
Museum. The museum includes several exhibitions on Michigan from
settlement until the beginning of the twentieth century. Visitors can
take a virtual walk through these galleries and learn about the major
commercial enterprises in Michigan until 1900. The twentieth-century
galleries have impressive collections of 1920s, 1930s, 1950s, and 1960s
material cultural artifacts, especially domestic appliances and
decorations. The Special Exhibits change periodically."*

"An archive of more than 55,000 photographs of
Americans in every part of the nation from the years 1935 to 1945 from
the Farm Security Administration, Office of War Information. Part of the
American Memory collection at the Library of Congress, these pictures
show American rural life and the negative impact of the Great Depression,
farm mechanization, and the mobilization effort for World War II. The
site, which contains primarily black and white photographs, is searchable
by keyword and indexed by subject, creator, and location."*
