The History Guide's "Lectures on Early Modern European History"
A good introduction to the "age of discovery", that is well written and easy to read. The author, Steven Kreis, has a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia. The site is well designed and very easy to navigate.

    1492: An Ongoing Voyage, http://lcweb.loc.gov/exhibits/1492/intro.html
"A brief survey of the cultures of the Western hemisphere before European contact and the ways these cultures were changed by the discovery of the New World. This exhibit by the Library of Congress also considers Columbus as man and myth and examines the Mediterranean world from which he came. Full-color images of artifacts and art from the period and a variety of primary and secondary sources are available."*

Luther and the Protestant Reformation in Europe, http://www.luther.de/e/index.html
"A web of information on the life and times of Luther and his contemporaries. Luther was one of the central figures of the dramatic religious upheavals in sixteenth-century Europe, which challenged the Catholic Church and it teachings. Many converts to Luther's ideas would later travel to America to escape persecution and set up strict religious communities. This site includes links to a timeline of the Reformation, information on Luther's life and legends and biographies of his contemporaries, such as Johannes Bugenhagen and Katharina von Bora."*

    The Columbus Navigation Homepage, http://www1.minn.net/~keithp/
"A site on fifteenth-century navigation and how Columbus used it. Created by historian and computer-systems consultant Keith A. Pickering, the site describes the two major types of navigation used at the time and provides a detailed overview of Columbus' ships, crew, and voyages. The site also includes bibliographic references, links to other sites, and a Columbus timeline."*
