Decompression of the Zipped Scribe file.
For this example WINZIP was used for the decompression. Dr. Burgess has detailed how to find and access decompression programs on the History department's website. The computer lab in the Culp center has loaded a decompression program for your usage. While there are differences, the general concepts are the same for both decompression programs. If you are using the Culp lab take the time to read the help files contained in the decompression program.
The stored zipped Scribe program should be in the file folder labeled "Zipped".
Double left click the "scribepc" icon and WINZIP will open.
Select "I Agree" and the decompression process will begin.
After selecting next, you will be asked whether to add this file to your "favorites", select "no".
The prompt will then ask "What do you want to do?" select "Unzip or install from 'scribepc'."
The prompt will then ask for a storage location. Use the "select different folder" option.
Select the Zip Disk's file folder labeled "Scribe" that you created earlier. Left click on "OK".
The file should begin to decompress into the file folder labeled "Scribe".
If all goes well you will be notified that the operation is complete. Left click the "close" button.
The uncompressed files should look like the example below. Several of the files may or may not have a filing cabinet as it's icon. This not a problem, the system may not recognize the files until you have opened Scribe for the first time. You will notice that some of the files below are represented with the "Microsoft" icon, (Help, Notes, Sources and Fonts). They will convert into filing cabinets after you open Scribe the first time.
Now that I have got the program and I have decompressed it, how do I use it?
