Web Browsers, Media Players, Instant Messangers, Operating Systems, Encryption Programs, FTP Programs, and so forth
Update with these Links
We have tried to provide you with a series of links, which will allow you to update your web-browers, media players, instant messangers, and so forth. If you know of a link which we should provide, please inform us, in order that we be able to add it to this list. We will update this list and adding descriptions, as we have time. Thank you, and enjoy.
Web-Browsers
Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Everyone knows how this works. Oh, well...but hey!! Let's not bust Microsoft's...uh...chops too badly. I remember back about 1983 when there six or eight different operating systems, nothing worked cross-platform and you couldn't really count on stuff designed for "your platform" -- either software or hardware -- working, either. At least Bill Gates made people think about the issue of compatibility.
Netscape Navigator
- Everyone know how this one works, too. But the last few versions have been fairly crappy. Perhaps the next release will be more stable and won't crap out when you try to start it.
Neo-Planet
- A shell for Microsoft Explorer. Works pretty much the same, but allows you to choose "skins" to make the visual interface more to your liking. I use it because I can choose an interface which is unobtrusive. But if you like gaudy, well, go for it.
Mosaic
-
Mosaic is an older browser. I have a copy and use it sometimes. The interface is nice. But it is a bit dated. However, that is not a reason to fail to have a copy.
Cello
- One of the original browsers. Not updated since 1994, but if you are nostalgic....
Mozilla
- Well, a really high-powered browser, but also one in the process of being rebuilt on a constant basis. Not for the "cherry". If you are a newbie, stick with one of the more traditional browsers. Recent scuttlebutt does indicate that the latest build (0.9.3) may be more stable than Netscape 4.xx versions, though. So this may be the time to give it a try, since Netscape 6.1 is based on the current 0.9.2 build. Don't be upset, however, if it is a little hinky sometimes.
Webprowler
- Currently in v.5.10. Highly secure browsing (probably) and a bunch of really intersting features to make browsing faster and less aggravating. Reasonably fast downloads. All the usual, standard things. Give it a try.
Galeon
- A Mozilla-based browser, a GNOME-compatible web browser for those of you running a LINUX box.
Opera
- Reputedly the fastest browser available. Runs pretty damn fast. Two versions: a freeware version with adds and an add-free version for a small price. The visual interface is okay. It runs as a pretty stable browser. You could do worse if you want an alternative to the standard Explorer-Netscape duo.
Netcaptor
- Done in PHP...clean and fast. A freeware and shareware version. Check it out. Som interesting features, including blocking adds of all sorts. Might be worth the money.
Instant Messangers
-
AOL Instant Messenger
- Well, you know how this works. Real time text conversations. Voice, also, if you have the right versions. Smileys, lots of options, etc. The most widely used instant messanger. If you want to communicate real-time, instant messangers are the way to go. Not as secure as it might be. So if you want privacy, run it with a firewall like Zonealarm. Keep your buddy list secret. Appear only to your friends. Give as little information as possible when you register. This holds true for all the IM services below, as well. Check them for encryption.
MSN Messenging Service
- Microsoft's instant messanger. Nice visual interface. Contains all the usual things, smileys, away messages, info on who is logged on. Contains Net2Phone for internet telephony. Lets you know when people are typing, so you don't have to sit there wondering if they read what you said or in the bathroom or have gone for a beer. And you don't have to look at adds like you do on AOL IM, which I am all for...
AT and T IMHERE Service
- I happen to like this one alot. A clean visual interface. Not difficult to set up. It also interfaces with MSN Instant Messanger and AOL Instant Messanger. I like it, particulary the feature which allows a message to an off-line user.
Trillian
- This is a recent addition to the IM fold. Apparently not too difficult to set up. Currently supports AOL IM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, IRC, and Yahoo! Messenger, but won't add new buddies to the list of these various services if you do it from Trillian. Big deal. Might be worth giving it a try.
Yahoo! Messenger
- A standard IM with good features and a use-friendly interface. I have a copy running most of the time.
ICQ Instant Messenger
- Cool, but ---IMHO --- unstable. Keeps trashing my system.
Aimster
- The usual chat stuff, BUT also encrypted file sharing -- wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Check it out, people.
Personal Messenger
- The usual stuff, plus voice-chat, address books, mobile paging. Check it out.
Dialpad (internet telephone)
- Basically, free long-distance phone calls. Works better with a head-set than with a mic and speakers, but that will work. A bit of a time lag, but the price is perfect.
Multi-Media Players
PowerPoint Viewer
- A free download from Microsoft, which allows you to view PowerPoint presentations from disk or via the Web without having to have the entire PowerPoint Program.
Real Audio
- The standard for much of the Web's audio and video presentations. There are free and shareware versions. It does add a bunch of stuff you may not want and it does -- or at least used to -- "call home" and report on your Web habits. So you might want to exercise a bit of caution.
MSN Media Player
- Comes with your system. Will do pretty much what RealPlayer will do, but you may have to adjust some of the settings.
Sonique
- A cool interface, which does all the standard things.
Winamp
- Another cool interface. Skins. Plays MP3, has visualizations, and so forth.
Media Wizard
- Plays all the popular media types.
Adobe Acrobat Reader
-
Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Read documents in PDF format no matter what your OS. A must have app.
Internet Security (Firewalls)
Zone Alarm
- ZoneAlarm is designed to protect your DSL or cable-connected PC from hackers. This program includes four interlocking security services: a firewall, an Application Control, an Internet Lock, and Zones. The firewall controls the door to your computer and allows only traffic that you understand and initiate. The Application Control allows you to decide which applications can and cannot use the Internet. The Internet Lock blocks Internet traffic while your computer is unattended or while you are not using the Internet, and it can be activated automatically with your computer's screensaver or after a set period of inactivity. Zones monitor all activity on your computer and alert you when a new application attempts to access the Internet. ZoneAlarm 2.6 features a new tutorial, improved color-coded Alerts with ratings and advice, as well as enhanced online help. ZoneAlarm 2.6 also has "hardened" security at the operating system level to safeguard users from the latest forms of Internet sabotage and includes improved intrusion blocking. Version 2.6.231 fixes various bugs and improves performance. This download is free for individuals and nonprofit organizations. For commercial and government use, registration is $19.95. (From ZDNet's description).
Blackice
- BlackICE Defender delivers bulletproof intrusion detection and personal firewall protection to your PC. It scans your DSL, cable, or dial-up Internet connection looking for hacker activity, much like antivirus programs scan your hard disk looking for viruses. BlackICE will not slow down your PC or your Internet experience.
BlackICE Defender protects you in ways the other personal firewalls or antivirus software don't: (1)It detects the attack, identifies and blocks the malicious activity before it can reach your computer, and identifies the attacker and type of attack by name.
(2)It fully inspects the contents of each packet, looking for hidden hostile code that personal firewalls cannot detect. (3) It protects you from attack, even from someone you trust, through its dynamic IP address and port blocking. BlackICE Defender is also easy to install, requires no knowledge of networking or the Internet, and begins to protect your system right out of the box. This is a 30-day trial. Registration costs $39.95. (From ZDNet's description)
Tiny Personal Firewall
- Tiny Personal Firewall (TPF) is a powerful and free utility designed to protect home cable and DSL connections. TPF provides multi-layer security protection in controlling which applications are allowed to transmit and receive data, MD5 Signature Support to ensure that Trojan horse applications cannot communicate, stateful filtering based on SRC/DST IP address, port and application to determine if incoming packets were requested, remote access to logs and statistics, and intrusion detection. This build corrects TDI errors. Tiny Personal Firewall will not function properly if it is installed on a computer using WinRoute or Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing. For directions on setting up TPF's security options, click here To view TPF's online library, click here To view or download the PDF support file, click here. Note: This program is free for home users. For business use, Tiny Personal Firewall costs $39.95. (From the ZDNet description)
IDecide Privacy Companion
- IDcide Privacy Companion is a free browser add-on (three small icons) that alerts you if you are being monitored online. Find out who might be tracking you, whether it is the site you visit, or advertising agencies and profiling companies. Block third party trackers, like DoubleClick, while still allowing receiving personalized services from the site you visit. IDcide Privacy Companion deals uniquely with both incoming and outgoing cookies and further protects you by hiding your own online referral data. (From the ZDNet description)
Encryption Programs
No, you're not paranoid: they are watching you. Your worst enemies, Net thieves, your nosy boss (or third-party OIT people who work for your boss, trying to smoke out "trouble-makers"), those clever high-tech marketing specialists--they're all poking through your files as you read this. They're perusing your email. ICQ messages? Snagging those is a piece of cake. When you buy a CD from Amazon.com, they steal your credit card number. They plow through your cache to find out the Web sites you visit regularly. They watch everything you do on the Net, because in the digital world, you're an open book. What's that you say? You'll just delete all the, ahem, evidence? Good luck. They'll recover those "deleted" files in about 30 seconds flat. Don't blunder around the Web like a drunken fool, spilling your secrets left and right. We show you some downloads that can help you maintain your privacy, protect your pocketbook, and, if necessary, keep you out of jail. (Just kidding!) Feeling paranoid yet? Good, let's get busy. (Mostly---from CNET's Paranoic's Toolkit)
PGP: Pretty Good Privacy Get it now!!
- PGP Freeware v6.5.8 is now available for Windows 95/98/NT/2000is now available at the MIT download site. It is designed to work with any Windows program...e-mail, word processors, whatever. Some e-mail programs like Eudora have plug-ins. Others have to be encrypted and decrypted through the PGPtray, but it is a fairly simple and straightforward process. Phil Zimmerman would like everyone using an older version of PGP to upgrade to the new program, in order to effectively raise the level of security and privacy. In response to demands for algorithm independence, v. 5.0 uses the DSS/Diffie-Hellman algorithm (the ElGamal version of Diffie-Hellman). The PGP implementation of DSS/Diffie-Hellman is more flexible and extensible than the older RSA key pairs. Version 5 does not have the ability to generate RSA key pairs. Version 6.5.3 also includes PGPnet - a powerful VPN client which enables secure peer-to-peer IP-based network connections - and Self-Decrypting Archives (SDAs) which allow you to exchange information securely even with those who do not have PGP. This release is free for private, non-commercial use, so go for it and use it,!!!
Version: v7.0.3, builds on the heritage of PGP, which was originally released as freeware and today has millions of users worldwide. This new program is designed for individuals and is for noncommercial use only. Features include PGPtray, a Clipboard encryption system that is accessible from the system tray; seamless integration with Qualcomm's Eudora e-mail plug-in for Microsoft Outlook/Exchange; a Windows Explorer context menu for direct access to all PGP functions; secure file wiping; and recipient groups for easy encryption to multiple recipients. This release corrects a security-related bug with Additional Decryption Keys (ADKs) that may allow sophisticated attackers to add unauthorized ADK key IDs to the unhashed areas of PGP public keys. New features include the ability to secure all TCP/IP communications between the local machine and any other machine running PGPnet. You can also encrypt files or folders into Self-Decrypting Archives (SDAs) that are usable for those without PGP, and do much more. PGPfreeware 7.0.3 also includes an ICQ plugin, AES 256 bit encryption support, and much more. The Download Now link will direct you to the developer's Web site where you must fill out a form before downloading the software.
Top Secret Crypto
- From the developer: "Until now, unbreakable encryption methods have been possessed by only a few government agencies like the National Security Agency and Soviet KGB. Top Secret Crypto gives you that ability. Privacy maintained by mathematical law is now a reality. Top Secret Crypto incorporates RSA public key cryptography which uses The One Time Pad Encryption System as its conventional encryption algorithm. RSA key sizes from 480 to 8,192 bits. Conventional key sizes from 325 to 20,261 bits depending on which type of Session Key you will use. Manage your public and secret key rings with a friendly and easy to use interface. Two types of Session Keys. The first, for one or more recipients, generates a random Session Key that is encrypted inside the RSA Public Key Encrypted Packet for each recipient. The second, for one recipient only, uses One Time Pad Key Files. Each file consists of 1,303 randomly generated 32 bits numbers greater than 100,000,001. 768 of these are selected randomly to seed 256 random number generators used to encrypt a file. Both the sender and recipient must have a copy of the One Time Key File used. This type of Session Key is truly unbreakable in theory and practice. Generate hundreds, or thousands of One Time Pad Key Files at a time. "Added create and use of True One Time Pad Files for encrypting a file with. This provides one byte of random data or each byte in the file you are encrypting."
Microsoft 128-bit encryption patch
- What it sounds like
WinXfiles Blowfish: image encryption
- WinXFiles, with its tabbed dialog interface, features secure encryption to prevent unauthorized access to all types of files--particularly to your image collection. The Secure Picture Viewer inside it supports JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIFF, and PCX formats. Other features include full-screen display and a slide show option. This is a 30-day trial. The full version costs $24. (From the CNET description)
Navaho Lock with Voice
- Navaho Lock with Voice incorporates all the features of Navaho Lock, including drag-and-drop file encryption. Navaho Lock with Voice has added the following new features: the ability to send and receive encrypted voice email, the addition of an electronic shredder for securely deleting data from your computer, and a new and improved streamlined GUI for greater ease of use. (From the CNET description.)
ZenCryptor
- Encrypt your files with Zencryptor. Uses the proprietary AKOT algorithm. Secures all file types for transmission or storage. It's so powerful, you should hurry up and download it before the government confiscates it. New, easy to use, and very strong. Be cool and check it out today! (From the publisher's description.) Looks really cool!!
Security Plus
- An encryption & decryption utility. This file viewer and program selector runs in the tray and offers full privacy of images, other files, and applications using on-the-fly encryption and decryption. SecurityPlus! is very fast and won't take long to encrypt and decrypt even large files (including files on CD-ROM). Features: Slide Show, Thumbnails, Safe Delete, Quick password, Full drag/drop. (From the publisher's description.)
MasterCrypt
- Mastercrypt is a strong file encryption utility Differently from most other encryption tools, Mastercrypt uses a key file instead of a password. The key file holds the information to encrypt or decrypt your files, so there's no password to remember. Besides only the person who has the key file and Mastercrypt will be able to decrypt your files. You can encrypt or decrypt a list of files and delete them after the process. You can also save that list in a text file for later use. There are also command line options for all Mastercrypt features, to make it work from a .bat file for example. You can compress the files (Normal ZIP compression) before encrypting them, thus giving additional security to your information.
Secure
- Support for all file types and sizes, point & click file selection, single or group encryption, file listings inside dialog, support for drives A through Z, password verification, password confirmation, optional edit box for navigation, self-check, data-check, user-choice of password, file compression prior to encryption, pull-down help menu, technical information, plus many other features. (From the developer)
BestCrypt
- Ever wish you had one of those cool wall safes that's hidden behind a painting? Here's a download that comes pretty close. BestCrypt is like a steel lockbox for your PC; it creates encrypted logical disks that are entirely separate from your other local drives. Just set the size of your new drive, choose your favorite encryption algorithm (the U.S. federal standard DES, the Russian GOST 28147-89 standard, Twofish, or Blowfish), and you're in business. Enter a password to mount your encrypted drives, then drag and drop your data as usual. BestCrypt can also wipe your free drive space clear of every last vestige of your data, and there's even a panic button that dismounts all your encrypted drives at once, just in case a SWAT team, armed with machine guns and night-vision goggles, unexpectedly crashes through your ceiling. With BestCrypt you allocate a portion (container) of free space on your drive where you keep all your sensitive data in encrypted form, creating a virtual drive in your system that you work with as you would any other drive. BestCrypt uses strong encryption algorithms, including Blowfish, GOST, and DES. Features include a time-out option, hot keys, a wiping utility, and the ability to add your own encryption algorithm. This program runs smoothly on Windows 2000. The new version includes Windows ME support.
Spector
- Spector automatically takes hundreds of screen snapshots every hour, undetected. It records all applications loaded, all Web sites visited, all chat conversations, and all incoming and outgoing email activity. Useful for parents who want to know what their children are doing on the Internet and employers concerned about inappropriate use of business PCs, Spector allows you to see exactly what the user was doing on the PC and the Internet. Screen shots can be taken as often as once per second, or as infrequently as once every few minutes. You also have the choice of recording in full color or in 4-bit grayscale. Screenshots can be played back like a video recording, displayed frame by frame, or exported to a BMP or JPEG file. To save disk space, an inactivity timeout feature is built in to stop recording if the PC is not being used. Access to the program is password-protected, preventing the user from disabling it. This program is a 10-day trial version.
This program (and its cousin, eBlaster) is spyware!!! You need to check and see if your spouse, significant other, parent or child has loaded it on your computer. Send them a nasty e-mail and boycott the use of this program, NOW!!!
Webroot
- Protect your privacy and recover valuable hard drive space with Window Washer 4.0, developed by Webroot.com. Window Washer allows you to easily clean up the history of your activities on your PC and the Internet. Window Washer's intuitive interface makes it easy to get rid of unwanted information that often clogs up system resources. It can clean your Netscape and Internet Explorer cache, cookies, form data, and drop-down address list. Window Washer can also remove files and entries in your recent documents history, recent applications history, temporary files folder, and recycle bin. Window Washer even includes a Custom Wash Items feature that allows you to specify other files and folders that you would like to have cleaned.
Free Custom Wash Item plug-ins allow you to clean many third-party programs, such as RealPlayer and Adobe Acrobat. You can set Window Washer to run automatically in the background and clean your files and history as you work, or you can have it clean at start-up or shutdown. In addition, a Bleach function is also available that overwrites deleted files with random characters a set number of times, making them unrecoverable by file recovery utilities.
Window Washer 4.0 features an improved interface, more than 50 new custom wash item plug-ins, and added compatibility for all latest browsers, including Netscape 6, MSN Explorer 6, and AOL 6.0. Other new features include improved cleaning functionality for IE and Netscape; cleaning functionality for IE 6.x beta and Netscape 6.x; improved cleaning of AOL versions, including 7.x beta; an updated interface; easier custom configuration; bug fixes; and much more.
Eraser
- You exchanged top-secret messages and files with your undercover cohorts, but now all that information is sitting on your hard drive. Sure, you can use one of the desktop-locking utilities we described earlier, but what if jack-booted storm troopers burst into your office, knock you unconscious, and make off with your PC? They'll get those files sooner or later. Your best bet for total security is keeping them in an encrypted archive, or better yet, wiping them off the face of the earth. Try Eraser, a free file shredder that Ollie North (the scumbag) would love. Used from your Start menu or via a contextual menu, Eraser will overwrite deleted files several times, using carefully selected patterns--a method that should wipe every last magnetic vestige of a file from your hard drive. You also have the option of using the U.S. Department of Defense-approved deletion method that overwrites files seven times over, a faster (but less secure) way of shredding files.
Old Safe
- "My Old Safe" software from Sundance Software Technologies offers the user a quick and easy way to secure computer files from prying eyes. Whether it happens to be a private spreadsheet, a resume, photograph, or any other file you don't want to be available to others on your P.C., "My Old Safe" offers a reasonably high level of security for most computer users. (from the owners site)." Freeware. This seems to be a easy, fairly secure program for basic security needs.

Bright Mail Anti-Spam Service
-
Anti-Spam
-
Spam Eater Standard
- ZDNet says, Setting it up was a breeze. At around 1MB, it has a very impressive user interface with easy, step-by-step instructions. It comes with a database of hundreds of known spammers and allows you the flexibility to add or subtract others. (This feature is helpful when you break up with your lover and no longer want to receive email from them.) SpamEater keeps a log of all email that was checked and notes when a spammer was matched and eaten.
Mail Guard
-
Spamkiller
- Spamkiller is a great tool for canning spam. It runs in your system tray, and checks all your email accounts, automatically killing whatever spam it finds. It includes lists of spammers and rules for detecting spam, and updates them regularly, and lets you create spam filters of your own. If you'd like, you also can have the program notify you when you've received new mail. Shareware.
SpamBuster
- Spambuster includes a list of 15,000 known spammers, lets you create your own rules for detecting spam, and will also allow you to preview junk mail before it's deleted. It's a freebie.
GarbageMan
- Garbageman is for America Online users tired of constant come-ons and spam. It integrates directly into your AOL account and will check your mail for keywords commonly used by spammers. You can then have the mail deleted, or moved to your Old Mail folder. It also includes filters you can create yourself to kill spam, or to make sure that mail from your friends never gets deleted.
Pop-Up Stopper
- This excellent free program kills pop-ups, but also lets you customize how to handle those kinds of ads. You can allow certain pop-ups to appear but not others, so that you'll be able to open links in new browser windows, for example. You can also configure the program to give you different kinds of notifications when a pop-up ad is detected.
PopUp Killer
- This program is another free program that kills pop-ups, and also lets you control the number of browser windows opened simultaneously, to get around the problem of Web sites that open a new window whenever you close a browser window to leave a site. It will also automatically close the dialog boxes that some Web sites open and force you to click on if you want to continue browsing.

Spyblocker
- Many Web sites have ads that are distracting and a drain on bandwidth. Some sites send cookies and other (Trojans and web-bugs, etc.) files to your computer. Still others acquire information about you, your machine, and your browsing habits by using single-pixel Web bugs and other methods.
SpyBlocker monitors this type of Web activity and allows users to control or block the ads and tracking systems. But SpyBlocker goes one step further. SpyBlocker strips ads out of ad-supported software, disabling the ad module and tracking capabilities without disabling the functionality of the program. (From the ZDNet Website)
Bugnosis
- Did you know that as you head to different sites, so-called "Web bugs" on Web pages can help track your activities? These Web bugs are invisible graphics that can be used to track what you do on a site. They can gather all kinds of information about you, including your IP address. Bugnosis will alert you whenever you visit a page with a Web bug on it. In some cases, it can even give you an email address on the site to complain about the Web bug.
"When installed, the Bugnosis software monitors the Web pages and e-mail viewed on that computer and makes its analysis available to the user of that computer. Bugnosis does not transmit this information over the network or otherwise automatically store the information, for example, on disk files. However, the user may choose to manually save the information by selecting 'Save,' 'Send to,' 'Print,' etc.
"Bugnosis partially relies upon an internal, evolving database regarding certain businesses and their privacy practices. In order to keep this information up to date, Bugnosis will periodically ask users if they wish to download new settings from the Bugnosis Web site. This reminder can be disabled through the Bugnosis options pages. When a user downloads new settings, the Bugnosis site will receive a record of the user's computer contacting the Bugnosis site, indicating the requesting computer's IP address and the time of the request (as is typical with most Web transactions). We may use this information to investigate a software, security, or legal problem, but under ordinary circumstances the information will not be used.
"Bugnosis attempts to reveal the presence of Web bugs, but makes no claim about their purpose. For example, Bugnosis may identify a Web site hit counter as a Web bug."
Note: Bugnosis currently does not work with Internet Explorer 6.0 beta.
Sick of Cookies? Cookie Pal. Cookie Pal is a complete Internet cookie management system for Windows 95/98/Me. It lets you automatically accept or reject Internet cookies from all sites or just from sites you specify, without the need to click on the Web browser's Cookie Alert messages. Cookie Pal also allows you to view and delete existing cookies on your system.
In version 1.6c, Copernic replaces Napster as the default program to monitor for cookies, and the maximum number of modules that Cookie Pal can monitor has been increased from 30 to 40. This version also includes bug fixes. Freeware<
Ad-Aware
- Ad-Aware is for anyone who wants to remove spyware from their system. It'll remove ad modules from the most popular spyware ad servers, including Aureate, Cydoor and many others. It automatically goes through your system, displays a list of spyware, and then lets you delete the ones you no longer want on your system. Keep in mind that if you delete the spyware portion of the program, the original program itself might not work.
Ad-aware scans your memory, Registry, and hard drives for software components from Adware, Alexa (through 5.0), Aureate (1.0, 2.0, and 3.0), Comet Cursor (through 3.0), Cydoor, Doubleclick, DSSAgent,EzUla, Expedioware, EverAd, Flyswat, Gator, Gratisware, HotBar, NewDotNet, OnFlow, TimeSink (through 5.0), Transponder, Web3000, and Webhancer. Ad-aware then displays a list of detected spyware modules, Registry keys, files, and folders, and allows you to remove them from your system selectively. This update supports removal of EzUla, Expedioware, and Transponder modules, and features an "exclude" option to ignore modules you want to keep. Freeware
IDcide Privacy Companion
- This is a free browser add-on (three small icons) that alerts you if you are being monitored online.

So, for example, you can make sure that your social security number and other private information is never sent. The program also includes a cookie killer, stops Web sites from tracking your online activities, and more.
FlowProtector Global Internet Security provides computer protection for Internet users. It includes a secure Web browser that neutralizes spy software and a microfirewall that detects online activity. It also can clean up cookies and the cache and add a proxy for parental control. It features e-commerce protection, which offers merchant scoring on more than 80 criteria, and consumer votes after purchases are made.
In this new update, the secure Web browser automaticaly detects the SSL connection in Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Opera in order to secure your access. The program also contains a new GUI and has the ability to erase URLs and block. Note: This is a 30-day trial demo. Registration costs $14.95.
Don't Panic
- Don't Panic will hide all kinds of information from the sites. It'll clean our your cache and history list, kill cookies and recently visited sites, and even let you immediately hide any program that's running on your screen so that officemates can't see what you're doing.
Immediately clear cache, cookies, browser history, recently viewed documents, and other personal history lists without closing your browser or restarting your computer. Stop Internet Explorer pop-up windows without adjusting proxy settings or adding sites to a list. Instantly hide or close any or all application(s) with a mouse click or keystroke. Free up disk space and leave no telltale footprints behind. A network mode is included to alert and communicate between other Don't Panic users on a local network. Version 4.0 features complete AOL and Windows Me cleaning support. Note: Registration costs $19.95. There is a 30-day trial period.
- Anonymity 4 Proxy is a proxy server agent that helps you surf the Web in privacy. It allows you to locate, test, and log onto public anonymous proxy servers. You can scan each server, check its speed, confirm its anonymity and IP isolation factors, set the best candidate as your default proxy, and share the anonymous Internet connection over a LAN. Advanced features include modification of any HTTP variables, blocking cookies, monitoring client requests, stopping lists for clients and remote hosts, random server selection, anonymity confirmation for each request, and more. Version 2.52 features minor fixes and improvements. The program now supports 18 languages. Note: Registration costs $35. Multithreaded checking is disabled in the unregistered version, and it includes reminders to buy the full version.
