Each student will be required to write a 16-20 page typed research paper(notes/bibliography). ximately 10-15 minutes on his/her research project. Please do not simply read your essay, but rather present an analysis of your
paper. Your summary presentation need not be of the final draft of your essay.
Although I don't care what style you use for footnotes/endnotes or bibliography, the Graduate School requires all theses to follow: Kate L. Turabian, A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 5th ed. Since most of you will be writing an M.A. thesis, I urge you to follow Turabian's guidelines. You might as well get accustomed to it now.
It is imperative that you get started on your research project as quickly as possible, so if you have any questions as to topics or the type of paper you wish to write, please don't hesitate to see
me.
The final draft of your paper is due no later than: Wednesday, December 6.
Class Assignment:
Each student will also be required to do 3 oral Journal Article/Book Chapter summaries in class. At the time you do your summary, you will also be required to turn in a 1 page written analysis of your article/chapter (you can write on both sides of one sheet of paper or, if you are
typing/using a computer, use two sheets of paper). Since discussion is central to this seminar, each student is expected to keep current in the reading, to attend regularly, and to participate in the
discussions.
Grades: Your grade will be based on the following:
Research project 50%
Oral Presentation (research project) 10%
Article summaries 30%
Class discussion/attendance 10%
Research papers submitted after the due date will be penalized one letter grade for every week they are late.
