Translation and Interpreting Hotline and Professional
Services
In 1999, a translation and
interpreting hotline was established as AQUI (A Quienes les
Urge Interpretación) through which Spanish-speaking
members of the community could request free interpreting
services. Awareness of our hotline has led to contracts
with various organizations for these services since 2002,
including the Johnson City Metropolitan Transportation Planning
Organization, STEP, TEIS, and the Northeast Tennessee Regional
Health Office, with clinics in eight counties.
Earnings from the services go to the LCRC
scholarship fund, which supports students who join the
statewide professional organization, Tennessee Association of
Professional Translators and Interpreters (TAPIT), for
attending the annual conference. The earnings also support the
operational expenses of the LCRC, which does not enjoy the
benefits of a university budget.
In 2008, the name of our translation
and interpreting services changed to:
LCRC Language Link.
