Welcome to the website for the East Tennessee State University Minor in Linguistics.
The goal of the program is to provide students who are interested in linguistics with a distinct, structured way of obtaining a foundation in the field, hence making them competitive for graduate study in linguists and for graduate study and/or employment in fields where linguistics is a valued are, such as computer science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and communications.
Students in the program will learn to define “linguistics,” explain the core concepts of the field, identify features common to all human languages, explain and apply the traditional methods of linguistic analysis in the core fields, identify resources for linguistics research, and identify ways in which linguistics is relevant to the student’s personal and/or professional lives.
